The Woodman Inn Wedding
- By Tim Christian Jones
Kat & Mark’s summer wedding was filled with love, individuality, and creativity, all held in the soft glow of early summer. Their wedding took place at The Woodman Inn, a family-owned venue in Huddersfield, set in the scenic surroundings of Thunder Bridge—a truly unique place with a beautiful sense of space and atmosphere.
Although set along a main road, the photo opportunities are endless. The front façade was perfect for the main group photo, while the rock walls across the road and the green ferns created a lovely setting for both group shots and couple portraits. The wedding breakfast took place in the light-filled upstairs room, where soft, misty tones were naturally captured, just as the day unfolded.
This was a celebration as unique as the couple themselves—a joyful and memorable Yorkshire wedding story. Telling the full story—I couldn’t bring the selection below 254 images; every moment felt part of something worth keeping.
Arriving at The Woodman Inn in the Golden Summer Light
The June sun was golden that early afternoon. I arrived to capture the bride’s arrival at The Woodman Inn—a quaint country pub and wedding venue. The groom, groomsmen, and guests were all waiting in the ceremony room; smart brown check suits felt just right for the setting, with dusky pink bridesmaids’ dresses adding a soft contrast.
Their little girl walked down the aisle first—a head-turning, truly lovely moment to share. The bride arrived with her father, smiles met by a very proud groom. A ceremony filled with emotion and laughter, set within a beautiful wedding in Thunder Bridge, in the heart of Huddersfield.
Photos at The Woodman Inn, Thunder Bridge
The couple stepped outside into the sun—I caught the moment in context, with The Woodman Inn sign above them. A quick photo with their little one followed, then a perfect group photo, everyone lined up outside the Woodman Inn façade, the golden summer sun falling across their faces.
Next, we crossed over the road for beautiful, natural group photos against the rock walls and greenery, followed by a few lovely golden-hour couple portraits. You could easily drive past The Woodman Inn without realising just how special this Huddersfield wedding venue is—and the surrounding beauty of Thunder Bridge makes it even more memorable.
The Wedding Breakfast at The Woodman Inn, Huddersfield
The stone-framed windows, the personal touches of a family-owned venue—the wedding breakfast room is absolutely beautiful. Soft light flows in, creating natural, muted tones, all captured unedited. The couple chose table décor that blended perfectly. A rustic-style wedding cake was something special, and the table plan display—an idea worth borrowing, you’ll see.
The wedding breakfast is a wonderful part of the day that I love to capture—the entrance of the newlyweds, the table group photos, such fun as you can see. The mixing and interaction are all part of the story as it naturally unfolds. The details, the emotion—everything.
Just before the speeches, we took a quick five minutes for couple portraits in the golden sun. Then came the speeches, ending with a rather emotional groom.
The Early-Evening Reception at The Woodman Inn
As evening settles in, the garden at The Woodman Inn comes alive. The bride greets arriving guests, chatting and laughing, while many capture these relaxed, joyful moments on their phones. The groom welcomes the additional arrivals, and I move through the scene, photographing both the people and the beautiful surroundings — the soft light catching the stonework and greenery — telling the story of the start of the evening.
Later, the cake cutting takes place on the dance floor, a moment I often suggest for its fun, lively timing. Here, a playful moment unfolds as the bride jokingly holds the knife to the groom’s neck — guests erupt in laughter, and the camera captures the energy and connection.
The first dance follows, captured in gentle, available light. Afterward, fun selfie moments with the couple and their guests add another layer of joy to the story, all documented naturally and unobtrusively. And that’s a full, detailed glimpse into this unforgettable wedding at The Woodman Inn, Thunder Bridge — a day of laughter, connection, and evening celebrations captured in the soft glow of West Yorkshire light.
